I thought I loved the Blue Skies racer back dress the most, but . . .

I can't get enough of these shorts!!

Who wears short shorts?

I have been searching for the perfect "camp short"  for Mimi -- not too cutesy and not too casual with plenty of room to romp -- and I think I found the perfect ones.  I saw similar shorts in an Anthropologie catalog in the spring, then Crewcuts had a pair edged with ruffles, and then my search for a pattern was on (sewing mommas, skip down to the bottom for links to this pattern and similar ones).

The shorts are $30 (plus $3 shipping) and sizes are posted above each pic.

For all you sewing mommas, I need to give you info first because all of your daughters, nieces, and friends' daughters need a pair of these.  You can find several similar patterns:

Oliver + S Picnic Blouse + Shorts.  Meeny Miny Moe (link to the right) had some similar ones last summer that I was in love with!  The blouse pattern is also pretty adorable.

Brownie Goose Seaside Shorts.  Amy at BG posted a photo of these shorts on FB several weeks ago, but I wasn't patient enough to wait for the pattern to be up for sale.  Because she is so stinkin nice, she directed me to the next link:

Cali Faye Collection Tulip Shorts.  And this was the pattern I used.  This is the same chick who wrote the racer back pattern, so she is on my favorites list!  Her patterns are simple and perfect for beginners such as myself.  The pattern is actually for reversible shorts without the binding, but I changed it up a little.

This Blue Skies dress is a size 3 (measures 20" long from top to bottom).  Izzie is actually a size 4, so this is a little short on her.  It is ready to ship and no orders will be taken.  The dress is $35 (plus $4 shipping if out of Chicago).

Blue Skies Dress

I think I've found the perfect summer dress . . .

This is the Blue Skies Dress in a size 3.  It's a little short on Mimi because she wears a 4, so at least you know your size 3 little girl can wear it for 2 summers!

First of all, the pattern is from Cali Faye Collection -- check out the link in the upper right-hand corner of the page.  Amy from BG sent me to her for a shorts pattern, but this one is my fave.  Super easy and I love its simplicity.  I kept trying to add trim and pockets ruffles and extras, but in the end I decided I can't beat the pretty blue pattern.

But there's only one problem . . . this dress isn't in Mimi's size.  It's a bit small -- a size 3.  Sorry, Meemers.

Although the dress is a little too short for Mimi (who is a size 4 or 5), it should give you hope that your little size 3 can get at least two summers out of this one!  The length of the dress from the top of the ruffle in the back to the bottom is 21".  Also, the dress is fully lined.

Summer Ikat Skirt

The fabulous Ikat Halter/Skirt and Shorts set has sold, but I still have this pretty little skirt in a size 5/6:

The yellow tank and the fun headband is included.  Wear it like Natalka or bandana Bruce Springsteen style if you're into that sort of thing.

The skirt is two layers of gorgeous fabric with a drawstring and elastic waist that will fit almost any size from 4-8 if you want to make it last.

Summer Lovin'

You thought I had fallen off the face of the earth, right?  Well, I did, sorta, but now I'm making a come-back!  A very wimpy come-back, but 2 points for trying, right?

I think I've figured out a few kinks, organized myself a little better, and will slowly be putting a few more items out to buy.  But absolutely no more orders.  This was all my fault.  I thought I could do it, but the unexpected disruptions such as a toddler who fights his naps or needing to actually cook dinner or, I don't know, buying a new house and living through showings when the owner of my condo decides to put it on the market kinda got in my way.  Our dining area, which is about half of our living space, turns into a war zone when I'm sewing, and for some reason the realtor thought of that as clutter.  Whatevs.  The condo sold in 3 days, so I can pull my "clutter" back out and stop cleaning the toilets!  Hooray!  So maybe I should keep up those toilets . . .

Now, to get to the good stuff.  I have two precious outfits up for sale!!  Yippeeeee!!!!

They are made of some of my favorite interesting fabrics that scream bohemian louder than the Indigo Girls.  Here they are:

That's right.  My crazy little models are back and better than ever!  I took these photos back in the winter which ended, oh, about a week ago (stupid weather), so now their hair is blonder and their shoulders are tan.  If I thought there was a chance I could get them to cooperate again, I would try to get outdoor photos :).

I have 2 different outfits.  We'll call this the Summer Ikat Line.  

Summer Ikat Halter Top with Darby Shorts:  The one on Mimi on the left is a halter top with dark denim Darby shorts.  The shorts can be worn with EVERYTHING.  Dark denim, tan wooden buttons with cream tabs and back pockets, and a comfy elastic waist.

The halter top is a-mazing!  One of my favorite pieces I've ever made.  Two layers of fabric -- red Ikat and yellow floral -- with elastic around the bodice and ties at the back of the neck.  But get this -- the halters straps are removable, so the top can then become a skirt!  Coolest top eva'.  I know, right?!!

The skirt is a size 6 (but can be cinched to fit a 4 or 5 because of the drawstring.  It can prob even fit a 7 because of the stretchy waist).  And I'll throw in the bright yellow Old Navy tank, which is a size 5.

This one is actually a size 6 and is a tad too big around the chest for Mimi (but I would make a 4 for her so the tights wouldn't be too big).

This outfit comes with the tunic top, the blue leggings (which can be made with one, two, or no ruffles), and the headband, which ties so she can share it with you, right?  

I will make the Mexican Tunic Outfit in sizes 2, 4, and 6.  If in doubt, order a size up.  If you're concerned about your size 6, just send me measurements.  

  

Mimi's pants only have one ruffle, but Natalka's have two.  I love choices!
